Stafford’s Town-wide Gardening Contest

the 300th Year Anniversary Committee
The Curbside Appeal Tricentennial Challenge is a beautification contest organized by the Stafford Garden Club and 300th Year Anniversary Committee. Anniversary Committee, recognizing the benefits of beautifying the landscape and that every gardening space beautifies our town for its Tricentennial celebration. No space is too large or too small! Remember, this is YOUR creation and is an expression of YOUR pride on our town. No professional landscaping projects will be considered.
Decorate a green space located in your yard, at your business, or associated with your organization, church, or civic group located in the town of Stafford, CT.
If possible, your garden space will be visible from the roadside or sidewalk for easy viewing by those passing by.
Consider these possibilities:
A space around your mailbox or near your front door.
Window boxes on your porch railings or pots and hanging baskets on your porch or deck.
An area near your business signage or business entrance.
Curbside AppeaL Challenge Categories
Register in one category only please.
Open to children and young adults 18 years and younger. Use your imagination to create a garden of your choice, but remember this garden must be the work of the Young Gardener!
Select a small area that measures 100 sq. ft or less (10’ x 10’). Plant in the ground or plant containers positioned on a porch, deck, entranceway, or in the garden.
For those who prefer flowering plants, this is for you. You may include perennials, annuals, shrubs, trees. Plan for blooms in early July when judging occurs.
You may include fruits, vegetables, and herbs of your choice.
The following prizes will be awarded in each category:
Grand Prize: $100.
Second Place: $75.
Third Place: $50.
Judging will be based upon the following criteria:
Suitability of plant material
Proportion and scale
Quality of workmanship
Register in one category only. Select from one of the four categories shown above.
Registrants must reside or conduct business in the town of Stafford.
Judges must have access to view your garden between July 1 and July 15, 2019. Registrant will be notified prior to visit by the judges.
PRIZES awarded in each category
Entries must be received by 5 p.m. on Monday, June 25, 2019.
Winners will be announced on Saturday, July 20, 2019, after the dedication of the Tricentennial Legacy Clock, scheduled for 11:45 p.m.
